Wander

I'm involved in the Abundant Mama yearlong Peace Circle.  It's a group of moms who come together in the hopes of being more peaceful, playful, and present each day.  There's a new focus each month with challenges, journaling, and lots of discussions online.  This month's focus is "Play!"  The topic is so relevant in my life right now since both kids are at home and we're always looking for things to do together.

Our challenge this week was to wander.  Find a place and just wander around to see what you find.  Yesterday morning I took up this challenge and packed the kids into the car.  D asked several times where we were headed and I said "guess?!?"  As we got closer she made several guesses until we neared a bridge and she yelled, "Occoquan!"  After we parked and got out of the car I asked where we should go first.  S looked at the hotdog buns I was holding and said "ducks?"  So we headed toward the river to feed the ducks.  On the way we found a small park with a gazebo.  This kids decided we should feed the ducks first and stop at the gazebo on the way back.  Duck feeding was great! As they tossed in bread ducks and geese swam over to get some.  We even saw a few fish grab some bread from under the water.

Next we headed back to the park and gazebo.  I tried to get some portraits of the kids.  But it's virtually impossible to get 2 kids to sit still at the same time.  So I gave up and snapped away as they were exploring.  S was especially enamored with the beautiful orange flowers.

Last, we walked up and down the sidewalk of town.  D pointed out some cast-iron lion door knockers on a gate, commenting they belonged on a castle.  S found some iron horse heads on poles in front of a store and said "NEIGH, NEIGH, NEIGH!"  over and over.  We enjoyed the beautiful weather and wandering around with no purpose other than enjoying!
