D is learning to read.  I'm both happy and sad!  Happy she's learning this amazing skill that will be wonderful for her entire life.  But sad that soon she won't need us to read her books anymore. Right now we're learning some site words.  We play a variety of games with flashcards each evening before bed.  She gets so excited when she reads something!  The ones she doesn't know she's quickly picking up and in less than a week we've almost mastered the first set of 12 words.  Tonight she was able to read the first page of a Pete the Cat book.  The pride and joy in her face was something I'll never forget!!

S has come to LOVE his bedtime books!  He would read books until he fell asleep if we let him ...w which we don't!  Instead he gets 2 books, sometimes read by just mommy and sometimes read by mommy and daddy!  He giggles, points, and recites along with the book.  It's a great way to end the days!

D is playing soccer again this season.  She started asking about it back in July so we agreed to sign her up.  This season she's playing for the grey team, who chose the name "Grey Nights."  She has a new coach and all new teammates.  She loves the fact that there are 2 other girls on the team. Last night they had their first practice.  I wasn't sure how D would do being it's on Thursday and she's just getting started with full days of school.  I was pleasantly surprised at how well she listened and tried.  They played several different games that involved various soccer skills.  She shot the ball into the goal, dribbled, passed, and practiced stopping the ball.  Most importantly she said "I LOVE my new team!"

S is lost without D here during the day!  He wonders around with a sad face saying "Naphne?!?!  Naphne?!?!  Where she?"  On Tuesday he cried when she didn't get off the bus for him in the morning.  Then he didn't want to eat lunch because she wasn't here.  It makes me happy and sad at the same time.  Happy that he loves her so much but sad that he misses her. To make things a bit brighter I asked him if he wanted to ride his bike.  We've been working on how to pedal it so he can ride alone.  He did a good job but just has to remember to keep pedaling.  He looks confused when the tricycle stops moving and I have to remind him to use his feet.  But he's definitely getting the idea!

D started Kindergarten yesterday.  She's been beyond excited all summer!  When her clock woke her up at 7:00 she was up, dressed, and ready to leave by 7:25.   After school (which is all day in our area) she was tired but said the day was amazing!  She talked about new friends, her teacher, and playing on the playground.  The playground wasn't as much fun as she'd hoped because "there was a gigantic traffic jam on the slide."  In class they heard a book about the 5 senses, leaned to push in their chairs, and talked "A LOT" about the rules.  Her favorite part was when they passed around boxes of play stuff (blocks, magnets, and play doh) for each table to share.  Today she wants to learn more about words and do some math.  When I asked her if she wanted to go back to school she said "YES!  YES!  YES!"
