Just Like That ...

And in a blink of an eye this happened ... While he didn't cry when I came to pick him up (like D did) he was sad to leave and convinced to leave only because he can go back on Friday!

Last Day of Summer

Image
Yesterday was our official last day of summer break!  S starts preschool this afternoon.  He's so excited to go and to be honest, I'm excited too!  To celebrate the last bit of summer we headed to the playground for a bit of fun before picking D up and heading to swimming lessons.

Ahoy Maties

Our week at the beach was filled with pirate fun! It started when the kids found a buried treasure chest on the beach outside of our condo.  It included a dolphin necklace for D, shark tooth necklace for S, and lots of quarters for them to use at the arcade. Later in the week we took a pirate ship ride.  D was a bit apprehensive because she didn't know if the pirates on the boat would be the ones whose treasure they had dug up.  We reassured her those pirates had asked us if we'd seen any treasure and promptly left when we told them no! To start the trip D got to use her acting skills and love of being the center of attention to demonstrate how to put on a life vest.  Her favorite part, and what she still talks about, is how the pirates pretended to throw her overboard. Then the real pirate adventure started.  We heard the tale of a missing treasure stolen by another pirate.  We were in search of t...

Water Too

Don't worry we washed off all of the sand we played in by swimming in the ocean.  Well, I don't know if you'd call it swimming since it involved more jumping, hanging, and running away from waves screaming.  But whatever you want to call it we had fun! The water was cool but not too cold.  The kids (of course) had no trouble jumping right in.  The waves and undertow were pretty bad so we didn't get to boogie board this year.  But at night when the tide came in tidal pools were created higher on the beach.  It was the strangest thing but provided a great place for some before bed splashing and playing!

The Sand in Your Toes

Image
Last week our family went to the beach!  I just love the feeling of sand in your toes!  What I don't love is the feeling of sand everywhere else, especially on kids - toes, arms, bellies, hair, INSIDE swim suits.  You get the picture.  And boy did we have a lot of sand on every body part.  Some days the water was really rough so the kids spent more time playing in the sand.  It was those days where during dinner (3 hours later) somebody would touch an itchy body part and have sand all over their hand.  In fact I'm still cleaning sand out of our bathtub - and we've been home since Saturday!

1st Grade

Image
More beach pictures tomorrow ... But for now, first day of school pictures from D!  She started first grade yesterday.  When I asked her what her favorite part of the day was she said "recess!"  Sounds like a typical first grader to me.  She then went on the explain about all of the books she read.  She said they didn't do math because they "talked and talked and talked about quality teachers and students."  She's hoping today they get to do centers and "especially hard math!"

Project 365 - The Beach Edition

Image
Here are some pictures from our beach trip last week!  I managed to keep up with my project 365! Day 234 - Intense Nothing quite as intense as opening a boogie board while being watched by the 3 year old owner! Day 235 - Lazy Days Day 236 - Outdoor Cooking No outdoor cooking on vacation ... but lots of fishy cracker opening! Day 237 - Put Your Feet Up Day 238 - Dog Days of Summer Day 239 - Nostalgic Day 240 - Easygoing Day 241 - Take A Nap No matter how tired D and S were yesterday, the only nap taken was by the dolls!
