Sugar Painting

Image
Today we tried painting with confectioners sugar mixed with water.  Add a little glitter and you have a paint for making snowflakes and snowmen.  It was fun mixing the paint together and the kids loved painting with it.  I have no idea how the final product will come out ... the paint takes a long time to dry.  If the pictures don't turn out well we'll call this a "process" art project!

Day 9

Image
We tried a new craft for today's countdown.  And like many of my Pinterest crafts it didn't work out great!  The object was to trace a light cutout with chalks and spread the chalk with your finger.  The tracing went well but the spreading not so much.  Nothing happened in fact.  D finally got hers to spread and look like a bright light by coloring the whole light. Even though it didn't work out we still had fun!

Let's Dance

Image
Ever wonder just how much you cram into one day?  Let me tell you what I crammed into Thursday - D drop off, S drop off, grocery store, brunch with the in-laws, S pick-up, lunch, playtime, D pick-up, RE, Family Game Night, bedtime!  Crazy would have been easier and slightly less busy.  But never fear, I knew the day was going to be hectic so our countdown activity was a dance party. Both kids picked songs from Straight No Chaser.  D chose a parody but seeing the Nutcracker and S picked a fun remix of 12 Days of Christmas.

Gingerbread Men

Image
Another quick activity for today's countdown fun!  We have LEGO build tonight plus homework so it leaves little time for fancy crafts.  Instead we made quick and fun gingerbread men using our fingerprints.  Big thumbprint body, pinky finger arms and legs, with a pointer finger head.  Then we decorated their faces with markers.  Cute and quick - my favorite type of craft!

A Quick Activity

Image
Tuesday's are CRAZY at our house ... school, preschool, Speech Therapy, swimming, homework, showers ... so much to do!  So today's countdown activity had to be super quick.  I found some color by number papers for the kids to work on.  Surprisingly they both loved the papers and spent a large part of the morning working on them.

Shape Tree - Day 5

Image
We did a two-for-one Christmas countdown fun today!  The planned activity was using rectangles and circles to make a shape Christmas tree.  The unplanned activity was watching "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer."  D liked making the tree best.  S liked the show more.  Figures they couldn't agree!

Day 4 - Reindeer Frames

Image
Today's activity was leftover from last year!  We never got around to making our reindeer picture frames.  So I decided to add the activity to this year's countdown.  I made sure to put it on a weekend so we'd have plenty of time to paint and glue! The frames came out really cute!  Now we have to decide what to put in the frames!
