After School

D loves school!  But she comes home tired most days, which is good.  It means she's working hard.  So we have a little routine of her sitting down with a snack and watching tv for about 20 minutes!

Slice of Life Week 4

Image
I really enjoyed this week's assignment for Slice of Life.  I've enjoyed all of them but this one really called to me for some reason.  The theme was "people in our lives."  That was easy ... my family!  They're the most important people around me and I see them everyday.  That part makes them easy subjects.  The focus was "faceless portraits."  That's the part that made this week so much fun.  I didn't have to worry about the goofy faces 5.5 and 2.5 year old children tend to make as they "pose" for the camera.  Even when I'm doing candid shots they always manage to catch on and end the natural expressions.  But this week I aimed the camera at their hands and feet instead of the camera (at least at the beginning).  It's interesting how you can still feel the emotion and see what's going on even without seeing their faces! S was so proud he'd put his socks on himself ... upside and inside out! We've been pra...

Friday Fun

Image
The real fun for today was the kids playing in the small pile of leaves they kicked together after school.  They jumped in them.  They threw them at each other and us.  They laughed and played TOGETHER!!!  But of course I didn't have the camera to catch any photos.  Oh well ... I got to watch and enjoy instead. When I asked D what she wanted to do for her Friday Fun today she said sight word coloring on ABC Mouse.  This warmed my teacher heart and proved just how much she's enjoying learning to read!   She also said she wanted to watch "Spookly the Square Pumpkin" that we'd recorded.  It's been a tiring week so I said sure! Next Friday holds something VERY EXCITING!!

Flash Diffusion Trick

Image
I learned a neat trick for creating fun flash tricks!!  Tape some toilet paper or colored tissue paper over the flash and shoot away.  Here's what happens ... You get neat color casts on the background and dark areas of your subject!

Another Mess

S and I did a fun color match sticker sheet with foam stickers this afternoon.  We have a HUGE tub of foam stickers we were using .... then I had to answer the phone.  You can imagine what happened - But at least he helped me clean up!

Slice of Life, Week 3

Image
This week for my photography class we were challenged to photograph tiny treasures in our lives.  Find the little things that are important, special, or bring joy to your life.  While doing this we looked for natural light and how it played into the photos.  When was the light best?  Where was good and not so good light?  How can you use the light to make interesting shadow?  And if all else fails, how can you use a flash with as little intrusion as possible? I'll be honest and say this was a tough week to look for natural light as most of the days were rainy and/or cloudy.  But I preserved and did find some.  I also don't know much about using the flash on my camera so that's something I will continue working on.  But I did enjoy looking for tiny treasures each day! These are D and S's treasured bedtime buddies.  They sleep with them every night and travel with us whenever we won't be sleep...
