Positive Thinking!
D has been doing a swim camp for 30 minutes each morning this week. She had one skill left to pass Kids Level 3 so we decided to enroll her for the week in the hope she'd be able to master it with 5 days in row of practice. What's the skill? 30 bobs in water over her head. That means she had to touch the bottom, bob up to take a breath and then go back down - 30 times! She's been steadily increasing the amount she's done this week from 3 to 12 to 15. But she REALLY wanted to pass the level.
I watched nervously as she practiced and practiced, never making it 30. The coach gave her a pep talk and I started counting nervously from the waiting room as she tried one last time.
5 ... 10 ... 15 ... 20 ("Wow! She made 20 at least.") ... 25 ("She's SOOOO close!") ... 28 ("PLEASE just 2 more!) ... 29 (PLEASE don't touch the coach or rope when you're this close!") ... 30!!!!! The grin on her face stretched from ear to ear as the coach grabbed in a giant hug.
After ringing the bell I asked D what the coach said to her. She told me, "Nothing, but I told her I could do it!"
