Sunflowers!

Today we ventured to a farm about 45 minutes from us that is growing sunflowers.  The farm grows tulips in the Spring but we never got a chance to go.  I was determined to make it for the sunflowers.  The weather today was gorgeous, low 80s with some clouds.  The flowers were beautiful!!  Much better than the lavender farm earlier in the summer.

When we started up the path to pay for our admission, but kids were enamored by the amount of flowers and how big they were.

When we first went in one of the attendants asked the kids if they wanted to make a green sunflower.  They both excitedly said yes!  So he had them remove the yellow petals from a flower, leaving the brownish center and green surrounding it.

Then we walked into the flowers themselves, being careful to stay on the pathways.  The kids were amazed there are so many different types, colors, and sizes of sunflowers.

The kids each got to choose 2 sunflower stalks to snip and bring home.  Both had a very difficult time choosing but were pleased with what they got!  S tried to blow the petals like a dandelion but quickly found out nothing was happening.

D enjoyed pulling S in the wagon up the row.  She did say it was hard work though.

It was a great way to spend a slow, peaceful morning outside!
